In Memory of Lee H. Bushie
Lee Harrison Bushie was born December 2, 1959 at Zama Army Hospital, Yokohama Japan, to Chief Warrant Officer Gordon J. Bushie and Emele Jane (Laun) Bushie. He passed away August 9, 2007 at 47 years of age in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents George and Violet Laun and Harrison and Essie Bushie.
Lee grew up in St. James Missouri with his three sisters and brother. He graduated from John F. Hodge High School in 1978.
Lee was united in marriage to Cathy (Cross) Bushie on June 12, 1998. Lee is survived by his wife and two stepsons, Greg Twillman of Fulton, Missouri, and Bryan Twillman of Columbia, Missouri. Other surviving family members include sisters Gail Rust and husband Scott, Lynn Wilson and husband Dennis, Ginny Pherigo and husband Danny, brother James Bushie and companion Lori, all of St. James. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces, and nephews with whom he enjoyed a special relationship.
Lee was a graduate of Central Missouri State University (B.S. Criminal Justice 1982) and received his law degree in 1985 from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He served on active duty with the United States Air Force through the Gulf War of 1991, achieving the rank of Captain, before commencing the practice of law. For the last ten years he was in partnership with John Beger as Beger & Bushie in Rolla, Missouri, where he concentrated on trial work representing individuals. He also served as a city counsellor for the City of Rolla. He was a member and past president of the Phelps County Bar Association, a member of the Missouri Bar, the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Lee holds the record for the largest personal injury verdict in the history of Maries County, Missouri.
Lee was recognized for years of dedicated service to the Gingerbread House beginning in 1992 and had served in several capacities on The Board of Directors including President. Everyone who knew Lee enjoyed his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Lee enjoyed music, golf, frequent card games with his buddies, spending time with his dogs Cash and Clinton, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He and Cathy traveled extensively and always had another trip in the works.
A memorial service will be held at the St. James United Methodist Church, Tuesday, August 14 at 11:00am. Lee was a great lover of dogs and enjoyed the dog park in Jefferson City. Being the son of an educator he also took great interest in legal education and had hoped to one day fund a scholarship for law students. For that reason flowers are strongly discouraged and memorials requested to the animal related charity of your choice or the scholarship fund of the Phelps County Bar Association.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Lee. Lee was one of my very best friends at John F. Hodge High School, in St. James. Lee was the greatest. Always funny, always there as a friend. Soft spoken, all around great guy. Always loved people. He loved Saturday Night Live and many times acted it out in class. All of our friends in high school had a great time and enjoyed life to its fullest. Lee, I will miss you as I know many others will as well. Gods blessings...Dr. Joey Bartle
I just heard the news. I worked with Lee at Scott AFB when he was active duty and later an Air Force Reservist. He was a great guy and fun to have lunch with on Reserve weekends. I will miss him.

It is always hard to hear the passing of someone you know. Although, it has been a few years since I last had the pleasure of working with Capt Bushie, he will still be sorely missed. He was a true professional and friend.

I just learned of the passing of Lee Bushie. I was married to Lee's brother James and I am very sorry for the family's loss. Though I wish that I had known him better, he was always kind and loving with his brother, and myself and while bringing his family together.
